Mangroves in Cu Lao Dung Island, Vietnamese Mekong Delta, are threatened by erosion and degradation, driven primarily by unsustainable livelihoods.

The project’s aim is to transform conservation by integrating regenerative livelihoods and community capacity building. The unique approach focuses on empowering local women entrepreneurs: they will lead the establishment of a mangrove nursery and training center to restore 5 hectares of Sonneratia Caseolaris.

Livelihoods are secured through the sustainable production and marketing of mangrove products, such as herbal tea derived from the mangrove flowers, and the development of a community-based agritourism model.

These efforts promote ecological sustainability, economic resilience, and cultural preservation, ensuring women have a vested, regenerative interest in protecting the forest.

The SCS SAP Project assist countries in meeting the targets of the approved Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the marine and coastal environment of the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand through implementation of the National Action Plans in support of the SAP, and strengthening regional co-ordination for South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand SAP implementation
