Taytay, Palawan, confronts severe climate change impacts (intense typhoons, temperature fluctuations) and overfishing, leaving local communities reliant on fragile traditional livelihoods. The project introduces and scales up climate-resilient seaweed farming techniques to combat this economic instability and environmental degradation.

The unique value-add is training at least 120 farmers (with a focus on women and youth) in cultivating disease-resistant seaweed, alongside providing business literacy training to form a community-managed cooperative focused on high-quality and value-added products.

This holistic approach enhances livelihood stability, restores degraded marine habitats, and utilizes seaweed as a carbon-sequestering climate solution, ensuring long-term environmental and economic resilience.

The SCS SAP Project assist countries in meeting the targets of the approved Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the marine and coastal environment of the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand through implementation of the National Action Plans in support of the SAP, and strengthening regional co-ordination for South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand SAP implementation
