Coastal communities in Kendawangan, West Kalimantan, face increasing ecosystem degradation from industrial expansion and destructive fishing, coupled with a lack of digital capacity for effective enforcement.

The project integrates ecosystem protection, participatory monitoring, and blue economy initiatives. Its unique approach is deploying the LILA mobile application (integrated with the existing SIPP platform) to enable real-time, geo-tagged community monitoring of patrols and ecological data across seagrass, mangrove, and coral reefs.

Parallel to digital protection, sustainability is achieved by piloting income-generating blue economy models, such as community-based marine tourism and sustainable aquaculture/crab fattening, to strengthen local livelihoods and ensure community ownership of conservation efforts.

The SCS SAP Project assist countries in meeting the targets of the approved Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the marine and coastal environment of the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand through implementation of the National Action Plans in support of the SAP, and strengthening regional co-ordination for South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand SAP implementation
