IMPLEMENTING THE STRATEGIC ACTION PROGRAMME FOR THE SOUTH CHINA SEA AND GULF OF THAILAND

National Committees for mangroves, coral reefs, seagrass, wetlands and land-based pollution will be revitalized to provide technical support and expertise to the Specialized Executing Agencies and National Focal Points in the implementation of the Strategic Action Programme. The technical support and expertise will focus, among others, on the reporting of outputs and outcomes including review of national and local reforms to achieve SAP targets, documentation and mainstreaming of best practices in natural resource and environmental management, review of planned and ongoing coastal and marine environment projects implemented to avoid duplication of efforts, and to identify opportunities for cooperation including the sharing of examples of best practices in reversing environmental degradation trends in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand.

Each National Committees will be chaired by the concerned SEA National Focal Point and will have as members the representatives from relevant stakeholders such as national and local government organizations, academic and research institutions, non-governmental organizations, local communities and organizations, civil society organizations and the private sectors. The SEAs will provide secretariat support to the operation of the respective National Committees including convening quarterly meetings of these committees.
